Caln Heroin Investigation, NJ Craps Man Tried Again, TD Bank Robbery

The Coatesville Area School District is opening up about its response to the discovery of heroin at Caln Elementary School. The investigation found failures by school administrators and staff. The incident involved a first grader who was found with heroin at Caln Elementary School. Wednesday the District’s Board of School Directors admitted there were multiple failures in the school’s response. A long list of shortcomings — the biggest they say by school administrators who didn’t inform the superintendent or other district leaders about the incident until nine hours after the drugs were found. Yet the board says there isn’t a policy in place that directs staff to call the superintendent when drugs are discovered. And the district solicitor says there isn’t a policy that requires the school to call 911. The District is now reviewing its policies and new procedures could soon be put into place.

Twice apparently wasn’t enough for a northern New Jersey man when it came to bending the rules at the craps tables. Less than a month after his release from prison on an earlier conviction for cheating, Derek Bethea went back to Atlantic City last August. He put an illegal $1,100 bet at a craps table at the Borgata Hotel Casino and Spa after the winning number had already been determined. A jury in Atlantic County convicted the 57-year-old Bayonne resident on two counts of third-degree swindling and cheating at a casino and a fourth-degree count of the same offense. He faces sentencing June 6.

Falls Township Police and the FBI are asking for the public’s help in identifying the suspect wanted in connection with the armed robbery of the TD Bank branch in Morrisville. Investigators say the suspect entered the bank, brandished a gun, and demanded money. After obtaining an undisclosed amount of cash, investigators say the suspect fled on foot toward Ferry Road. The suspect is described as a Black male in his mid-30s, about 5’9” tall, medium build. He wore a dark-colored zip-front hooded sweatshirt, light blue latex gloves, white surgical mask, and large snowboarding-style goggles.
