Route 495 Bridge Closed, Black Boxes Sent to Washington, NJ Primary Election

The bridge over the Christina River on Route 495 around Wilmington is closed while DelDOT analyzes the problem. There is a structural issue that is causing the bridge to tilt. About 90,000 cars use 495 around Wilmington daily. The bridge and that stretch of 495 will be closed indefinitely.

The black boxes from the plane crash that killed Lewis Katz are now in Washington at the National Transportation Safety Board. Federal safety investigators will review the data in hopes of determining exactly what caused the plane carrying the owner of the Philadelphia Inquirer, Daily News and Philly.com to crash and burst into flames killing all seven on board.

New Jersey voters are heading to the polls today. It’s primary election day. The polls are open until 8 pm. The key races include the contests for the U.S. House seats in the first and third Congressional Districts. Seats are open because First District Democrat Rob Andrews stepped down to take a job in the private sector and Republican Jon Runyan is not running again for his Third District seat.

Sports
The Phillies will try their luck on the road, opening a three game series with the Washington Nationals.

Weather
Increasing clouds. Scattered thunderstorms today. 87 in Center City.
