Seventy years ago today, American and allied forces stormed the beaches in Normandy, France. President Obama was in France this morning with world leaders to mark the 70th anniversary of D-Day, the turning point in World War II. Obama and French President Francois Hollande laid a wreath at the American cemetery near Omaha Beach where more than 9,000 Americans are buried.

The 30 year old teacher accused of having sex with her 14 year old special needs student has been released on $125,000 bail. Stephanie Amato is an eighth grade special-ed teacher at Ethan Allen School in Mayfair. Amato allegedly had sex with the teen multiple times in her car and home. Stephanie Amato’s next scheduled court appearance is June 24th.

The I-495 beltway around Wilmington remains closed at the bridge over the Christina River while the damage is assessed from support columns that have twisted and tilted. Tons of dirt is being removed from the area around the columns. It is possible that the extra dirt may have caused the ground to shift. The bridge is expected to be closed for months while the investigation and repairs continue.

Sports
The Phillies move to Cincinnati tonight for a series with the Reds.
