Miss Pennsylvania a Child of Rape, SEPTA Service Resumes, Temps Above 90 This Week

Miss Pennsylvania, Valerie Gatto is a child of rape. Gatto, now 24 was a semi-finalist in last week's Miss USA Pageant. Gatto's mother was raped and became pregnant at the age of 19 and made the choice to keep Valerie. The beauty queen has made it her life's mission to teach women to protect themselves from sexual assault.

SEPTA service is back on track now that Regional Rail workers have ended their strike. President Obama intervened after the strike was called Saturday at the request of Governor Tom Corbett. The White House emergency board will mediate proceedings between SEPTA and its unions and will report back to the president by July 14th.

Some sum-summertime heat hits Philadelphia this week. For the first time this year, daytime high temperatures will reach into the 90’s. Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday look to be squelchers with mid-week highs hitting 94. High humidity will make things sticky and produce afternoon thunderstorms as well,
