I-495 Tilt Cause Determined, Graduation Disruption at GW High, Racketeering Suit Over Union Parking

The Federal Highway Administration has determined what caused the I-495 bridge to tilt. They say it was the huge piles of dirt dropped alongside the bridge supports by Jim Thomas of Keogh Contracting. Officials say the piles displaced soil underneath the support columns causing them to tilt. Repairs are continuing around the clock and will be paid for by federal emergency relief funds.

Graduation at George Washington High was interrupted by a fistfight and a marijuana arrest. Parents who arrived early to get first row seats in the bleachers were upset by late arriving parents who stood in front of them blocking their view. Words were exchanged, and then fists. A father and 16 year old daughter were arrested in the disturbance. The girl was also reportedly carrying a jar of pot.

A Bala Cynwyd parking lot operator filed a federal racketeering lawsuit claiming the Philadelphia Union and Chester City officials conspired to stop the company from operating its parking lots at the stadium. T.I.C.B. Partners bought the lots near the stadium and got permits to operate. The suit alleges Police Commissioner Joseph Bail ordered the lots closed. T.I.C.B. claims it is all about competition for parking dollars.
