A 3-year-old girl was killed Saturday afternoon in a freak accident when a security gate fell on her outside the Rita's Water Ice in the the city's Brewerytown neighborhood. It happened around 4:30 pm at 2829 West Girard Avenue. The large gate detached from the wall, crashed to the sidewalk making a loud boom, and landed directly on the girl. The Omega Psi Phi fraternity and the Alpha Kappa Alpha sorority were holding their annual fundraiser at the water ice place at the time. It took over 20 fraternity brothers to lift the 1,100-1,200 pound gate off of the child. She was taken to Hahnemann University Hospital but was pronounced dead a half hour later. Rita's released this statement, "Our hearts and prayers go out to the child's family. Due to the current investigation we really cannot comment about the unfortunate incident." Police continue to investigate the accident.

Police are searching for the gunman in a fatal road rage shooting in Kensington Friday night. It occurred on the 2800 block of North 5th Street around 8:30 pm. A man and a woman were fighting in the street blocking the flow of traffic. One of the drivers, angry that he was stuck in traffic, exited a green minivan and shot the man in the head and chest. That minivan was found abandoned at 500 West Indiana Avenue. The victim has been identified as 32-year-old Antonio Pedraza. Anyone with information is urged to contact Philadelphia Police.

Philabundance is asking home gardeners to donate any surplus fruit and vegetables to help feed those in need throughout the Delaware Valley. Tens of thousands rely on Philabundance's food banks and local gardeners can help those in their local community by giving their excess produce which will be supplied to a local food bank. Philabundance has set up 10 drop off locations through out the area that operate each Saturday morning from 9-noon through September.
