Parish Area Pastoral Planning, Bucks County Water Boil Advisory, East Parkside Mural

Sixteen Catholic parishes held their final Sunday services. They're slated to merge with nearby churches on July 1st as part of the Archdiocese of Philadelphia's plan to restructure its parishes. This is part of the process known as Parish Area Pastoral Planning that has been going on since 2010. Church officials say the mergers are needed because of factors that include a shift in the Catholic population, a high density of parishes in a small area, along with declines in Mass attendance, Sacramental activity, the availability of priests, and a review of facilities.

There is a boil water advisory and water conservation notice in effect for residents of Sellersville Borough and West Rockhill Township in Bucks County following a water main break Sunday morning. Those under the advisory should boil water for one minute or use bottled water for drinking, making ice, washing dishes, brushing teeth and food preparation. The boil water advisory will be in place for at least two days.

Dozens of volunteers packed in the East Parkside residence park in West Philadelphia Sunday to paint benches, flower boxes and a new mural — all in an effort to give the park a facelift. The mural, commissioned by “Wawa Welcome America,” carries a theme of Black American quilts created before the Civil War and it’s titled “North Star Journey to Freedom.” Officials say the mural should be up and ready for display by September.
