PPA Officer Fired For Gay Bashing

A Philadelphia Parking Authority officer is losing his job for going on a verbal anti-gay tirade this week. The PPA officer, Joseph DeJohn had parked his vehicle in a no parking zone at 6th and Carpenter Streets in Queen Village. When he noticed two men taking a photograph of the PPA vehicle, DeJohn lashed out, calling them faggots and suggested they take pictures of themselves performing sex acts on each other. The victims filed a complaint and DeJohn was immediately suspended without pay and wil be fired within 10 days. The Parking Authority has apologized to the victims and is planning to conduct refresher courses with employees on proper treatment of all Philadelphia citizens.

According to the PPA, "The PPA has a zero tolerance policy against the mistreatment or harassment of any citizen by our employees . . . The PPA is proud of our history of inclusion and diversity - where our employees and managers represent the diverse nature and makeup of our city."

The PPA continued, "senior management staff will provide a refresher briefing at all roll calls to remind [employees] of our standards of professional conduct.

"On behalf of all Authority staff, we apologize to these citizens for the inappropriate treatment by one of our employees."
