Several houses in Philadelphia's Cobbs Creek neighborhood have collapsed today. It happened just before 12 noon near 60th and Spruce Streets. The roofs of two homes collapsed, crushing the second floors and weighing down on the first buckling the porches out over the front steps. Neighboring homes also sustained damage. No one was inside any of the homes at the time, and there are no reported injuries. There was a search for one neighbor's champion Scottish deerhound show dogs. They were eventually found safe and sound. An investigation is underway by L&I officials to determine the cause of the collapse and also to deem properties either safe for occupation or slated for demolition. In the meantime, ten people have been displaced by the collapse. The Red Cross is working to accommodate those affected.

A two-alarm fire broke out in Ship Bottom on Long Beach Island, NJ, this afternoon around 3:30. It was located in a multi-story Law Firm building at 22nd and Long Beach Boulevard across the street from Joey's Pizza. Firefighters from other towns came to assist in fighting the fire. The fire has been brought under control. No injuries have been reported. The investigation into the cause is underway. (see picture below)

The Glassboro Police department has reported the passing of one of their K9 officers “Anka” over the weekend on Saturday. Anka's handler, Glassboro Patrolman Charles Williams, returned home to find that his K9 partner had escaped from her kennel and was missing. During the impending search, an off-duty officer found her about 1 mile away lying in the road, apparently struck by a vehicle. She died on her way to the veterinary hospital. They believe that Anka became stressed out hearing private fireworks celebrations and escaped her kennel to get away from the noise. Ptl. Williams and Anka graduated Patrol K9 school from the Philadelphia Police Canine Academy in October 14th, 2011. The 6-year-old German Shepard was the first female K9 in a Glassboro PD K9 history that dates back to 1958. You can make donations in Anka's name to:
