Pharmacy Deliveryman Shot in North Philly; Gov. Corbett Signs Budget; 10 Car Pileup in I-95

A pharmaceutical deliveryman was shot this morning while making a delivery in North Philadelphia. It happened around 10:30 a.m. on the 2300 block of Ridge Avenue outside of the Wellness Pharmacy. The man was delivering a supply of prescriptions when he was approached by a gunman on the sidewalk and shot once in the index finger. He was rushed to Hahnemann Hospital and is in stable condition. The robber and accomplice took off leaving a whole van of drugs untouched. Police do have surveillance video from neighboring businesses of the incident and are trying to identify the suspects. It appears they knew the deliveryman's schedule and followed him to this pharmacy.

Governor Tom Corbett signed Pennsylvania's $27 billion state budget into law Thursday. He did use his line-item veto to strike out $72 million, $65 million of which was money that the Legislature had appropriated for itself. The governor noted that the General Assembly has it's own reserve of $150 million. If any discretionary items are that important, they can be paid from that. Governor Corbett also brought up pensions, saying that lawmakers “need to come back and enact pension reform." All options, including a special legislative session, are on the table.

A 10-car chain reaction crash tied up I-95 around midday on Thursday. The crash happened around 11 a.m. in the Northbound lanes near Cottman Ave. The 10 vehicles ended up all lined up bumper-to-bumper in the left lane sustaining moderate to heavy damage to their front and rear ends. At least 2 people were injured. There is no word on the initial cause of the crash. IT was all cleared by 12:45.

Tonight,
Partly cloudy, a chance of an isolated thunderstorm, temperatures in the upper 70's this evening in Center City
