Police Shoot Suspect in Home Invasion; $1500 Reward in I-95 Hit/Run; Remembering Alex Scott

One suspect is dead and another is still on the loose after Philadelphia Police responded to a home invasion in Northeast Philadelphia early Friday morning. It all happened around 12:45 am on the 900 block of Wakeling Street. Two armed men forced their way into a young couple's home, which set off an automatic alarm. When officers arrived, one suspect removed his mask and answered the door saying everything was 'ok.' The officer was not convinced and asked for ID. The suspect then sent the female to the door who said everything was fine but managed to signal that there was a problem. The 31-year-old officer entered the home and was met with multiple gun shots from one of the suspects. He returned fire and killed the 42-year-old male intruder. The other suspect was able to escape out the back door and is still at large. Police recovered a gun and the suspects' Mazda sedan. The couple was not injured.

A $1500 reward is being offered for information in an investigation of a deadly hit-and-run along I-95 near the airport back in April. 61-year-old William Fleischmann was struck and killed on April 4th in the northbound lanes of I-95 near Exit 13. Fleischmann was heading to North Carolina from Germany to visit his daughter and 1-year-old granddaughter. Instead of waiting the 6 ½ hour overlay at the airport he decided he wanted to go to a hotel instead. After missing a shuttle, Fleischmann apparently started walking and ended up crossing the lanes of the highway. A witness saw a white Ford Bronco with an empty spare tire rack in the area. Any vehicle involved would have sustained significant damage to it's front end and contain trace evidence like blood or hair. Anyone with information contact Pennsylvania State Police Belmont barracks.

10 years ago today, 8-year-old Alex Scott lost her battle with cancer. She was diagnosed with neuroblastoma shortly before her first birthday and was never able to become cancer-free herself. When Alex was just 4, she decided to hold a lemonade stand to help raise money to find a cure for cancer in children. Those lemonade stands grew and grew and expanded all over the county. To date the Alex Scott Lemonade Foundation has raised $80 million and funded over 450 projects nationally. Children are already seeing results from those clinical trials and tests on their way to a cure. Alex and her family moved to Philadelphia area so she could get treatment at area hospitals and the Foundation is located in Wynnewood.
