Philadelphia police say a suspect wanted for his alleged role in a shooting that claimed the life of a three-year-old girl late last week was taken into custody Monday night. Police say Brandon Ruffin of South Philadelphia was arrested by the Homicide Unit Monday night. Ruffin was wanted by the city's Homicide Unit for his alleged involvement in a shooting that killed three-year-old Tynirah Borum and injured three others.

A case pitting a casino against gamblers who won $1.5 million in a game with unshuffled card decks may be heading toward trial. The Golden Nugget casino doesn’t want to pay them, and it wants to collect more than $500,000 it already paid. In June, Atlantic County Superior Court Judge James Isman ruled that the game was illegal under state casino regulations and said the casino didn’t have to pay. The casino sued the 14 gamblers for the return of money paid out and seeking to be absolved of having to redeem the outstanding chips.

The six Philadelphia narcotics officers charged with corruption went before a judge Monday at their bail hearing. There were cheers and sobs as dozens of families members and friends of six indicted Philadelphia narcotics officers crowded into a courtroom at the U.S. Courthouse, hoping the officers would be released on bail to await trial. In each case, the prosecutor argued the officers presented a risk to the community if freed on bail, and were a risk of flight because of potentially heavy sentences if convicted. The judge split his decision on bail. Former officers Thomas Liciardello and Michael Spicer will remain in custody. Linwood Norman, Perry Betts and Brian Reynolds will be released under "house arrest" and will be electronically monitored. A detention hearing for John Speiser could come as early as tomorrow.
