Mummers Belong in South Philly, Taney Headed for Williamport, Connie Murray Funeral Today

Some of the Mummers are not in favor of the idea to move the annual New Year's Day parade route out of South Philly. Leadership is considering starting the parade at City Hall and finishing at Washington. Members of the Jesters New Year's Brigade say the parade should maintain its connection to its South Philly roots. Brigade member Matt Ciotto commented, "Why don't we just move the Liberty Bell to South Jersey?"

Taney is headed to Williamsport for the Little League World Series. The team from Center City Philadelphia that features female pitcher Mo’Ne Davis shut out the Delaware Newark National team 8-0 Sunday night in the Mid-Atlantic Regional Final in Bristol Connecticut. In Williamsport Taney will take on South Nashville on Friday afternoon.

Funeral services were held today for Connie Murray. Yesterday, her husband Christopher Murray was charged with her murder in Pennypack Park by strangulation last Monday. He failed a lie detector test then confessed to the murder. The Murrays, who reportedly had ongoing relationship problems have two daughters 12 and 15 years old. A Facebook page has been set up requesting police to donate the reward money to a fund that will benefit the daughters.

The Phillies wrap up with the Mets this afternoon.

Sunny today. 85 in Center City.
