Fire in Delco Displaces 100; Bill Campbell Dies; SRC Bypasses Union Negotiation

100 people were forced from their apartments last night because of a fire. About 10:30 Monday night, fire crews were dispatched to the complex on the 100 block of Folcroft Avenue. Due to high levels of carbon monoxide, residents could not return to their units. The Red Cross opened a shelter for people who had nowhere else to go.

Bill Campbell, the legendary voice of Philadelphia sports for nearly 70 years, has died. Campbell called the championship win in 1960 when the Eagles beat Bart Starr and the Green Bay Packers. Bill Campbell was 91.

The Philadelphia School Reform Commission may have started a war with the teachers union by activating the nuclear option, cancelling its teachers’ contract in their effort to remake the city’s schools. The SRC will likely face legal challenges but it believes it has the power to bypass negotiations and impose teacher contract terms.
