PA Tpk Deadly Crash; First Marijuana Citation in Philly; Abp Chaput Clears Confusion

One person has died and four others were injured in a crash between a car and a tractor trailer on the Pennsylvania Turnpike early this morning. The accident happened westbound between Mid-County and Fort Washington just after midnight. The four injured young adults were transported to Abington Memorial Hospital in serious condition.

The first civil citation for marijuana use was issued on the steps of city hall to a former U.S. Marine Corps combat veteran. Mike Whiter is also an activist with PhillyNORML which supports marijuana law reform. Whiter, who had alerted the police he was going to do it commented, “If I had done this on October 19th I would have been cuffed.” He got a ticket instead and called it a huge step for marijuana consumers and for the city of Philadelphia.

Philadelphia Archbishop Charles Chaput addressed a gathering of conservative Catholics in New York this week and pointed out that “confusion” was the public message that came from the Vatican’s recent Extraordinary Synod suggesting an embrace of same sex marriage and divorce. Chaput made it clear he was standing with the bishops who had pressed for the traditional views of the final document, saying "gay marriage is not a possibility in God's plan."
