NJ Sports Betting Court Date, Space Station Supply Rocket Explodes, Third Frein Sighting

The federal judge who temporarily stopped New Jersey from allowing legalized sports betting last weekend has set a court date for the state and the professional sports leagues and NCAA to argue whether the ban should be extended. The parties will convene Nov. 20 in Trenton in front of U.S. District Judge Michael Shipp, whose temporary restraining order that stopped New Jersey from allowing legal sports betting is set to expire the day after. Shipp issued the order last Friday, derailing Monmouth Park racetrack’s plans to start accepting sports wagers last Sunday.

An unmanned commercial supply rocket bound for the International Space Station exploded moments after liftoff Tuesday evening, with debris falling in flames over the launch site in Virginia. No injuries were reported following the first catastrophic launch in NASA’s commercial spaceflight effort. The accident at Orbital Sciences Corp.’s launch complex at Wallops Island was sure to draw criticism over the space agency’s growing reliance on private U.S. companies in this post-shuttle effort. The explosion hit Orbital Science’s stock, which fell more than 15 percent in after-hours trading.

State police are reporting another possible sighting of Eric Frein who has eluded a massive manhunt for the past month and a half. A resident reported the possible sighting of 31-year-old Eric Frein early Tuesday afternoon near Route 390 in Barrett Township in Monroe County. Frein is accused of having opened fire outside the Blooming Grove state police barracks on Sept. 12, killing Trooper Bryon Dickson and seriously wounding Trooper Alex Douglass. The search is now in its 46th day.
