The staff of Mission Kids Child Advocacy Center celebrated five years of successfully aiding victims of child sex abuse in Montgomery County with an open house to thank donor and supporters for helping children heal. Among the highlights of the Center's first five years: decreasing the trauma for over 1,900 Montgomery County children and their families during investigation of abuse cases and relocating the facility to a larger space in order to accommodate the increasing number of cases and services provided. In a press release, Mission Kid’s Executive Director Abbie Newman stated, “This is such an important milestone for Mission Kids. Not only do we have the opportunity to look back at all we’ve accomplished over the past five years, but we can also identify ways we will continue to improve and expand our mission.”

Police are responding to a stabbing inside of a Northeast Philadelphia hotel Wednesday evening. Authorities say the incident occurred around 4 p.m. inside of room 310 of the Ramada Inn on the Roosevelt Boulevard. Police say a 26-year-old woman was stabbed twice in the left arm. She was taken to Aria-Torresdale Hospital for treatment. So far, no arrests have been made and a weapon has not been recovered.

A Philadelphia police officer has been arrested for soliciting a prostitute. On Thursday, October 16, a Patronizing Operation was conducted by the police department’s citywide Vice Enforcement Unit in the 25th district. As a result, Officer Ronald D. Thompson, a 26-year veteran of the force, was arrested for the solicitation of a prostitute at Old York Road and Bristol Street. Police Commissioner Charles Ramsey suspended the officer for 30 days with the intent to dismiss.
