He has training as a first responder, but he was acting on instinct. Those are the words used by the young man who pulled Philadelphia police officer, Mark Kimsey from his burning cruiser Saturday evening. Seventeen year old Joe Chambers is being hailed a hero after witnessing an accident involving the police car and another vehicle. Officer Kimsey was trapped inside his burning car when Chambers jumped into action. Officer Kimsey is expected to be okay.

The cigarette tax designed to help fund Philadelphia schools is bad for business at some Philly retail stores. Especially for those trying to sell cigarettes on the fringe areas of the city. In a West Philadelphia grocery store where cigarettes are now $9 a pack, customers are crossing City Line to do their shopping in Delaware County where the same smokes are $6. Revenues are reported down at many of the city’s convenience stores and employees are being laid off.

Animal rights protesters were ready this weekend with a camera mounted drone to capture a pigeon shoot at the Philadelphia Gun Club in Bensalem. Protesters call the shoots “cruel, savage and an outrage” and they planned to use the video of men and women shooting at pigeons hurled into the air by handlers to get the shoots banned in Pennsylvania. However, as anxious protesters and media called in to witness gathered around laptops to watch video from the drone, the Philadelphia Gun Club was empty. The shoot had been cancelled. A minor victory in the eyes of the protesters.
