This has been a tragic year for air travel in Southeast Asia. Yesterday, things got worse when an AirAsia plane carrying 162 people disappeared over stormy Indonesian waters. There is no word on its fate despite several hours of searching by air and sea. There have been preliminary reports of debris spotted. AirAsia Flight 8501 vanished in airspace thick with storm clouds on its way from Surabaya, Indonesia, to Singapore. The Malaysia-based carrier's loss comes on top of the still-unexplained disappearance of Malaysia Airlines Flight 370 in March and the downing of Malaysia Airlines Flight 17 in July over Ukraine.

Police are investigating an attempted murder in Toms River, New Jersey. The incident took place Sunday at a Hess gas station on Route 37 where James Crudup 44, allegedly threw his 35 year old girlfriend to the ground. Then he pinned her against the gas pumps with his truck. After she fell to the ground, he backed his truck up, ran over her legs, pulled forward and then backed over her striking her a third time before fleeing the scene. Police are holding Crudup on $500,000 bail. The girlfriend has been hospitalized.

Officials are investigating the death of a 10-year-old boy who was struck and fatally injured by police cruiser responding to a call in Franklin Township, Gloucester County yesterday. One focus of the probe will be if the officer had his car's lights and sirens on when he hit the child on Delsea Drive (Route 47) about 7 pm last night. Police are talking to witnesses who say the police car did not have its lights or sirens on when the boy was struck on his way to a sleepover. The officer was northbound on the road when he hit the boy while responding to a call.
