Police Kill Man Making Social Media Threats; Flu Widespread In PA; New Year's Eve Events

A Clifton Heights man was shot and killed by police in Drexel Hill on Tuesday afternoon after police tried to serve a warrant for terroristic threats. 52-year-old Joseph Pacini had been making threats on social media to kill police and FBI officials. Police officers pulled him over and boxed him in. Pacini then put his car into reverse, smashing into the car of the Clifton Heights police chief then used his vehicle as a weapon, attempting to run over officers. Five police officers then opened fire on the vehicle, striking Pacini several times, and killing him.

Thousands of Pennsylvanians are feeling the effects of the flu. Fevers, coughs and body aches associated with Influenza cases in the state are surging as we end the year. More than 10,000 people have suffered from flu this winter as of Saturday, the latest figures available, according the state Department of Health. About 4,500 of those cases were reported last week and the health department says flu activity is "widespread" in the state.

There are plenty of New Year celebrations around Philadelphia tonight. A floating barge on the Delaware River will launch fireworks displays at 6 pm and midnight for revelers in Philadelphia and Camden. Along Penn’s Landing there will be ice skating, live entertainment and a party at the Seaport Museum. There are also special events planned for the Please Touch Museum, Longwood Gardens, the Battleship New Jersey, Adventure Aquarium and fireworks at the shore in Ocean City.

The Flyers are in Colorado tonight. City Six this afternoon Temple is at Connecticut and Villanova is hosting Butler.
