Philadelphia Police are investigating a sexual assault that happened this morning in a parking garage in the city's Spring Garden section. It happened at 10:51 a.m. on the second level of a garage at 17th and Callowhill Streets near the campus of the Community College of Philadelphia. The suspect followed the 33-year-old victim into the garage forced her to take off her clothes and assaulted her. A person-of-interest in the attack was taken into custody a half block away and is being questioned by police. They have retrieved a coat and a hat thought to be discarded by the attacker and were combing the garage for evidence all day. The victim was transported in stable condition to Hahnemann University Hospital with multiple injuries. The garage is not part of CCP but is used by residents of One Franklin Town apartments. Residents are shaken up saying they have always felt safe using the garage both day and night. The garage is well lit and secured 24 hours a day.

UPDATE 11pm: A 32-year-old man from Pittsburgh has been charged with rape, robbery and attempted murder. His name will be released after he is arraigned.

The Mummers strutted their stuff once again this New Year's Day, and this year they literally went 'down' Broad Street. The annual parade changed their route, shortening it to one mile and heading south from from City Hall to Washington Ave. The new format also called for less props that slowed the parade down, but brought more music, dancing, and costumes for spectators. Judging happened at the beginning of the route at 15th and Market with performance stops at Sansom and at Carpenter Streets. At least one group of South Philadelphians wasn't too happy about the new route. About a dozen were protesting at Broad and Oregon in South Philly, the starting point of the parade for over 100 years.
