Philadelphia Police are questioning one person of interest and have identified two others in connection with the fatal stabbing and wounding of members of rapper Nicki Minaj's tour group on Wednesday. 29-year-old Devon Pickett was stabbed and killed and 27-year-old Eric Reed was injured and hospitalized early Wednesday morning during an argument outside of a bar on Stenton Ave in West Oak Lane. The two were in town preparing for Minaj's upcoming tour that starts next month. Police were able to work with witnesses and several surveillance cameras in the area that caught the altercation on video. Authorities are working on obtaining arrest warrants and expect to make arrests shortly.

Organizers for the World Meeting of Families and the Pope's visit in September announced on Friday that so far $30 million have been pledged. The Archdiocese of Philadelphia says this represents a large percentage of it's $45 million fundraising goal. Archbishop Charles J. Chaput credits the supporters' generosity and well as enthusiasm both for the impending visit of Pope Francis but also the message of the conference and the fundamental importance of the family in society. Money will be used for operational expenses, security, infrastructure improvements, transportation, etc.

A 48-year-old Philadelphia woman has been convicted of first-degree murder and sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole for beating her 10-year-old stepdaughter to death. Margarita Garabito was charged with killing her stepdaughter, Charlenni Ferreira, back in October 2009. Garabito was accused of repeated vicious beatings over years that eventually led to the girl's death, including a large head wound. The girl's father was also arrested but killed himself in prison days after being taken into custody.
