The Philadelphia Federation of Teachers held a Mayoral Candidates Forum Wednesday evening as they try and decide which contender to endorse.
PFT president Jerry Jordan says this is an opportunity for members to hear the candidate's views on the challenges facing Philadelphia school children. Jordan says their focus isn’t just on what the candidates say they want to do inside of the classroom, they’re interested on their whole platform.

Groundbreaking ceremonies were held Wednesday afternoon for sprucing up Stinger Square Park in Philadelphia’s Grays Ferry neighborhood. Mayor Michael Nutter joined community leaders and residents for the event. Michael DiBerardinis, Deputy Mayor for Environmental and Community Resources , says the park is in for more than $500,000 in upgrades. He says the work will be done by the end of June, just in time for summer.

Montgomery County authorities announced the arrests of more than 30 people involved in what they say was an extensive drug trafficking operation that peddled cocaine, heroin and crystal meth on the streets of the Philadelphia region. The investigation was dubbed “Operation Snow and Ice Removal.” Montgomery County District Attorney Risa Vetri Ferman said the investigation started a year ago with a drug trafficker in Colombia. Ferman said it was a call she received from a concerned citizen; a family member worried about a loved one who was hooked on drugs. Ferman said there was enough information from that call to set up wiretaps and intercept cell phone conversations. Evidence seized included $70,000 in crystal meth, $38,000 in cocaine, eight firearms, five cars and nearly $45,000 in cash and bank accounts. Also seized was a powerful horse tranquilizer that is used to cut heroin.

Weather, Feb 26

Snow showers …less than 1 inch accumulation…cloudy later. High 29 in Center City.
