Kelly Reshaping Eagles; Haverford President To New York; Velodrome Proposal Gets Thumbs Down

Philadelphia Eagles fans are on the edge of their seats. And we are nowhere near football season. The Eagles coach and personnel director Chip Kelly has made several moves in this free agency period that have surprised and upset some fans. Kelly gave up Quarterback Nick Foles and 2 draft picks to the Rams for Quarterback Sam Bradford and picks. There is now speculation Kelly is interested in Cowboys running back Demarco Murray.

Daniel H. Weiss, president of Haverford College, is leaving after only two years on the Main Line. Weiss at 57 years old will take the lead job at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City. His presidential tenure is the shortest in Haverford's 181-year history. Weiss commented, "Although my time at Haverford has been relatively brief, my experience here has been profound." The Met job will be Weiss' first outside higher education,

The proposal to build an Olympic-class Velodrome bicycle arena in South Philadelphia’s Franklin D. Roosevelt Park has hit a pothole. The Commission on Parks and Recreation has advised City Council to not approve a land lease for the project saying it does not meet conditions of the city’s Open Lands Protection law and that FDR Park is used by hundreds of thousands year-round and the Velodrome project is not in the public interest.
