Rhawnhurst Airbag Thefts, WMOF Fundraising Escalates, Insurgent Tops Box Office

Several cars were broken into overnight in Northeast Philadelphia and it appears the thieves may have been targeting airbags. Five vehicles were broken into, all within about a block of each other in the area of Hartel Avenue and Frontenac Street in the city's Rhawnhurst section. The cars were all Hondas. The windows were smashed out, and in three of them, the airbags were stolen. Officials say airbags are targeted because they can be removed within minutes and can sell for several hundred dollars on the black market. But repairs to replace the airbags can run car owners thousands of dollars.

Fundraising efforts are escalating with about six months to go until the visit of Pope Francis and the World Meeting of Families in Philadelphia.
So far, corporate and community fundraising has netted more than $30 million of the $45 million goal. Dan Hilferty, president and CEO of Independence Blue Cross, is co-chairman of the World Meeting of Families Philadelphia. He says a number of conversations are still going on with corporations, foundations and individuals at every level to get funding commitments to close the gap in the coming months. He adds, however, heâ€™s amazed at the level of contributions and interest from across the U.S. and even from some overseas sources.

The second installment in the science fiction franchise, Divergent, Insurgent, starring Shailene Woodley and Kate Winslet, earned an estimated $54-million on its opening weekend to take the box office crown. The live-action fairytale, Cinderella, dropped to second, but still took in a robust $34-million. The weekendâ€™s other debuting mainstream release, The Gunman, an action thriller starring Sean Penn, tied for third with the holdover, Run All Night, with $5-million.
