Philadelphia's long awaited bike share program called Indego officially launches Thursday afternoon. You may have seen the blue share stations being installed around the city over the past few weeks. There will be 70 stations located from 44th Street in University City to Columbus Blvd and Temple University to Tasker Ave. Using the BCycle app, riders will be able to see which stations have available bikes and also which ones have available return spaces. The bikes themselves are sturdy. They feature front and rear baskets, lights and reflectors, an adjustable seat, and three gears. There will be a big kickoff event at Eakins Oval today from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. after which all the bikes will be ridden off to their locations. For more information: http://indego.ticketleap.com/indego-ride-off/

Using Indego is simple. There are a variety of membership levels or you can walk up and pay per trip. After you unlock the bike, just ride where ever you need to go and simply return the bike to any Indego station. If you get to a station that is full, you can add 15 free minutes at the kiosk and use the app to find a station close by that has an open space to return the bike. Indego will be open 24/7/365 unless there is some kind of weather related emergency or other maintenance type event.

The two membership options are:
$15/month for unlimited free 1 hour rides ($4/hour after) or
$10/year plus $4/hour rides.
If you pay as you go it's $4/half hour. The only cash option is the monthly pass.
