Baltimore Prosecutor Files Charges Against 6 Police Officers in Freddie Gray Case

Baltimore's top prosecutor announced charges on Friday, ranging from murder to assault, against the officers involved in the arrest and transport of Freddie Gray last month. State Attorney Marilyn Mosby's decision came a day after the police department handed over its internal review of the April 12th arrest that left Gray dead from a spinal injury. The six officers - 3 white men, 2 black men, 1 black woman - surrendered to city jail on Friday. They all have been released on bonds between $250,000 and $350,000. The most severe charge belongs to Caesar R. Goodson Jr., the black officer who drove the transport van. He was charged with 2nd degree “depraved heart” murder, which has a maximum sentence of 30 years. The other officers have charges of manslaughter and assault, which carry maximums of 10 years.

• Involuntary manslaughter 10 years
• Two counts of second-degree assault Each has a maximum penalty of 10 years
• Two counts of misconduct in office
• False imprisonment

Officer Edward M. Nero
• Two counts of second-degree assault Each has a maximum penalty of 10 years
• Two counts of misconduct in office
• False imprisonment

Officer Garrett E. Miller
• Two counts of second-degree assault Each has a maximum penalty of 10 years
• Two counts of misconduct in office
• False imprisonment

Sgt. Alicia White
• Involuntary manslaughter 10 years
• Second-degree assault 10 years
• Misconduct in office
