Christie Aides Plea Not Guilty; Mayoral Debate; Sheridan Drug Case Moved

Two former political allies of New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie entered not guilty pleas Monday after they were charged for their alleged involvement in politically motivated lane closures of the George Washington Bridge in 2013. Christie's former deputy chief of staff, Bridget Kelly, and his former top appointee at the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, Bill Baroni, entered the pleas in the nine-count indictment. Bail for both was set at $150,000. A tentative trial date is set for July 7.

Philadelphia's six Democratic mayoral candidates got together for their third debate last night at Temple University Performing Arts Center. The first hour consisted mostly of a well-rehearsed rehash of their positions that, for the most part, all the candidates share. Later in the debate, candidates took aim at front-runner Jim Kenney for his potential conflicts of interest and his association with controversial labor leader “Johnny Doc” Dougherty.

In New Jersey, the Somerset County Prosecutor's Office has transferred the criminal drug case against Matt Sheridan, the son of Cooper University Health System's deceased chief executive John P. Sheridan Jr to Middlesex County. It requested the move to "eliminate any conflict or appearance of conflict" between local prosecutors and 41 year old Matt Sheridan, who lived with his parents.
