The Amtrak train that derailed last night in the Port Richmond section of Philadelphia 5 people and injured dozens of passengers, according to Mayor Michael Nutter. Train 188 was traveling from Washington, D.C., to New York City when it derailed. Amtrak says there were approximately 238 passengers and 5 crew members on board at the time of the derailment. The derailment was a Level 3 Mass Causality incident. Initial reports say 65 people have been injured with 6 people in critical condition.

UPDATE 2:39pm 4/13: 7 confirmed dead, 11 critically injured, over 200 wounded. Over a dozen people unaccounted for at this time. NTSB confirms the train was going over 100 mph, speed limit on the curve is 50 mph, 70 mph before curve.

Federal investigators are headed to Philadelphia to try to determine what caused an Amtrak train to derail in Port Richmond, killing five people and injuring dozens more. A National Transportation Safety Board "Go Team" is at the crash scene. The Federal Railroad Administration is also sending at least eight investigators to the scene of what is believed to be the deadliest crash on the Northeast Corridor since 16 were killed when an Amtrak train collided with a freight train near Baltimore in 1987. The investigation is expected to take months with some preliminary findings in the next few days.

With the derailment of the Amtrak train in Port Richmond last night, Amtrak has revised service schedules. There will be no Amtrak service between New York and Philadelphia, but New Jersey Transit will honor Amtrak tickets between New York City and Trenton. Modified service will be provided between Washington and Philadelphia, Harrisburg and Philadelphia, and New York and Boston.
