Mathematical genius John Forbes Nash Jr. and his wife Alicia Nash of Princeton, NJ, were both killed on Saturday in a car crash on the New Jersey Turnpike. They were taking a taxi home from the airport in Newark after flying home from Norway following the reception of an award. The taxi was traveling in the left lane and lost control while passing a car and crashed into the guardrail. The Nashes were pronounced dead at the scene. The taxi driver and a passenger from another vehicle were taken to the hospital. The crash is still under investigation.

Nash and his struggle with schizophrenia were famously portrayed by Russell Crowe in the Academy Award winning film 'A Beautiful Mind.' Alicia Nash was played by Jennifer Connelly, showing how much the disease affected those around John as well. He eventually was able to cope with his disease because he "gradually began to intellectually reject some of the delusionally influenced lines of thinking," he said. Nash won the Nobel Prize in economics in 1994 for his work in game theory, which offered insight into the dynamics of human rivalry. John was 86, Alicia was 82.

Princeton University President Christopher L. Eisgruber released the following statement:
"We are stunned and saddened by news of the untimely passing of John Nash and his wife and great champion, Alicia. Both of them were very special members of the Princeton University community. John’s remarkable achievements inspired generations of mathematicians, economists and scientists who were influenced by his brilliant, groundbreaking work in game theory, and the story of his life with Alicia moved millions of readers and moviegoers who marveled at their courage in the face of daunting challenges."

Fourteen people were injured, two critically, after a carbon monoxide leak in Norristown on Saturday night. Fire crews responded to the 100 block of West Airy Lane around 11 p.m. They discovered high levels of CO in five of the row homes and evacuated them immediately. One of houses had set up a gas powered generator in their basements after PECO shut off power due to non-payment, that was the source of the leak. One of the neighbors had a functioning CO detector that went off and they called 911. Eight people, including a paramedic, were taken to local hospitals. Two of them remain in critical condition. The one house was condemned. Residents were permitted to return to the other four.

A man is fighting for his life and remains in critical condition after being shot four times in the Strawberry Mansion section of Philadelphia. It happened just after 3 p.m. on the 2500 block of North 29th Street. The the 34-year-old victim was shot in the face, chest, stomach, and thigh. He was taken to Temple University Hospital in extremely critical condition. There have not been any arrests. The investigation continues.
