Rainfall Records; Body of Penn Track Star Found; Aramark Named Merch Partner for World Meeting

Roads remain flooded around the Philadelphia area after Monday's cloudbursts set rain records for the first day of June. The National Weather Service says 1.96 inches of rain fell on Monday at Philadelphia International Airport, breaking an 1881 record of 1.58 inches. Records also were set in Wilmington, where the 3.80 inches were measured Monday and Atlantic City set a record with 2.22 inches of rain. The totals, which followed a dryer than normal month of May, do not include any rain that fell after midnight.

The body of a former University of Pennsylvania track star has been found in the Hudson River. The remains of 20 year old Timothy Hamlett were found Friday and the New York City Medical Examiner’s Office has ruled the death “suicide by drowning.” Hamlett’s parents say their son was on leave from Penn and went to Manhattan on December 26th and they had not heard from him since then. They say his behavior changed after he began taking dietary and male enhancement drugs.

An official merchandise partner has been named for Philadelphia’s World Meeting of Families in September. Aramark is the official vendor and will sell products including commemorative apparel, wine glasses, rosaries, and more ranging in price from $5 to $500. The cuddliest piece is the stuffed Pope Francis doll which Mayor Michael Nutter (pictured) found irresistible at the unveiling. The Pope Francis doll will sell for $20.
