Middle School Threat; TV Anchor Discrimination Trial; Firefighter Saves Ump at Game

Police in Mount Laurel, New Jersey were on high alert this morning after a threat at a local middle school. Students and staff were checked before entering the building at Harrington Middle school. According to police, someone made a threat against the school around 9:00 p.m. last night. Police searched the building, but found nothing. Apparently similar threats were made at other school districts throughout New Jersey Monday evening.

Former Fox 29 TV news anchor Tom Burlington opened his racial discrimination lawsuit in Philadelphia’s U.S. District Court in front of an all-white jury. Eight years ago Burlington, who is white, said the “n-word” in a closed staff meeting while discussing a story about the ceremonial funeral for the word. Some of the black staffers were offended, even though black co-workers used the word without being disciplined. Burlington was fired.

Firefighters are crediting a teenage member of their department with saving an umpire's life during a baseball game in Delaware County. Michael Brodzinski is a student at Academy Park High School in Sharon Hill and a member of the Folcroft Borough Darby Fire Company. He was on second base after hitting a double last night when he saw the umpire collapse at home plate. Brodzinski performed CPR on the ump until paramedics arrived. The umpire is in stable condition at a hospital.
