The Phillies looked to have squashed division rivals, the Atlanta Braves, with a three game sweep pushing them 10 1/2 games back in the standings. It was the first series sweep suffered by the Braves since the Phillies did it to them last September. It also put the Phils at another franchise high 43 games over .500 at 91-48 on their march to a record breaking season with 23 games left.

Not that there really was any doubt that Roy Oswalt, with all his experience, would have that playoff spot over the rookie phenom Vance Worley, there shouldn't be after his performance tonight on the mound. 7.0 IP 4H 2ER 4BB 7K. His velocity was there and consistent, plus he was hitting his spots.

Raul Ibanez hit his 250th career home run in the 2nd, but it was our bench late that got it done when it was really needed. In the 8th, John Mayberry Jr. pinch hit singled. Wilson Valdez pinch hit sacrificed him over and Placido Polanco knocked in Mayberry to tie the game. Again in the 9th, after Ibanez walked and Carlos Ruiz singled, Ross Gload came in to pinch hit. He connected and singled up the line to right field for his league leading 17th pinch hit for the walk off rbi scoring Ibanez and the win.

Chase Utley was hit by a pitch on the back of the helmet in the 6th inning. He appeared to be ok, but didn't even realize that the ball had hit him at the time, asking the umpire if and where he was hit. However, he took first base and continued to play in the field. He did leave the game in the 8th inning complaining of a headache. As a precaution, Utley did not fly with the team to Milwaukee and will meet with doctors on Thursday to determine if he may have suffered a mild concussion or not.

This 4 game series in Milwaukee will be another test for the Phillies against a potential post-season opponent. Right now in the race for home field advantage in the NL, the NL Central leading Brewers are in 2nd, 8 1/2 games behind us.
