Netflix will be releasing a documentary of jazz/blues singer Nina Simone called What Happened, Miss Simone? next week. To accompany that release, there will be a compilation called Nina Revisited: A Tribute to Nina Simone. It will feature tracks recorded by Lauryn Hill, Mary J. Blige, Usher, Common, Alice Smith, Simone's daughter Lisa, Gregory Porter, Lalah Hathaway, and Jazmine Sullivan. The first song to be released is Lauryn Hill's cover of Simone's 1965 bluesy "Feeling Good." Hill originally contracted to record two songs for the project but got caught up in energy of the music and did six for the album. The film will be available June 26th. The compilation will be out July 10th. Listen to "Feeling Good" below:

Janet Jackson tweeted out a short preview of music from her upcoming new album due out sometime this summer or fall. The album is presumably called Conversations In A Cafe. Jackson is also preparing a tour but she is not coming near the Philadelphia area. The :43 second clip has a song with these lyrics: "I lived through my mistakes / It’s just a part of growing / And never for a single moment / Did I go without your love / You made me feel wanted / I wanna tell you how important you are to me / Love." Watch it below:

Swedish electropop duo Icona Pop have released a video for their latest single "Emergency." The jaunty, high energy dance anthem is flavored with 1920's jazz and a bit of vaudeville camp. There's a little feeling of US3's "Cantaloop" turned up a notch. This video will make you want to get up and move. Caroline Hjelt and Aino Jawo keep up the antics with some flashy outfits, mugging for the camera, and a lot of dance moves. Take a look and listen:

Madonna has released the video for "Bitch, I'm Madonna." The Material Girl has proved at least one thing, and that's she is the master at reinventing herself into whatever she wants. This 56-year-old baby boomer has transformed into a 20-something millenial. She can dance, dress, and talk like she's half her age. The persona is not always done right (like what's up with the grill?), but close enough. The Diplo track is pretty good though. I'd like to see what Madge would do if she acted her age. Her biggest fear is not being relevant anymore, but if she takes her own advice, "Bitch, you're Madonna" she doesn't have to conform.

Anyway, this video is full of celebrity cameos. Nicki Minaj was featured on the song and she appears (sort of). Also getting face time are Beyoncé, Katy Perry, Miley Cyrus, Rita Ora, Chris Rock, Diplo, Alexander Wang, Kanye West. If you don't subscribe to that other music service and can't watch it, try here.
