Rhawnhurst Car Crash, Local High School Bands Play For Pope, Mission Impossible Tops Box Office

A car crashed into a house in Northeast Philadelphia. It happened shortly before midnight Sunday in the 8600 block of Bustleton Avenue in the city's Rhawnhurst neighborhood. Police say a man in his 80's was watching television when a car plowed into the home. He was treated for more minor cuts but is expected to be okay. The woman who was driving the car was tested for DUI and taken to a local hospital.

The first and final things Pope Francis will hear when he’s in Philadelphia are two high school marching bands from Delaware and Chester Counties. Bishop Shanahan High School’s marching band travels from Downingtown to welcome the Pope as he takes his first steps on city soil. Cardinal O’Hara will play out Francis as he boards his flight back to Rome on Sunday, September 27th — the school will be reprising its role from John Paul II’s visit here in 1979. The Pope counts Mozart, Bach, and Beethoven among his favorite musicians.

It was a sequel topping a reboot at the box office over the weekend. On its second weekend, the fifth installment in the Mission: Impossible franchise, Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation, earned an estimated $29-million to repeat as the first-place attraction.
That put it ahead of the debuting remake, Fantastic Four, the comic book-inspired superhero fantasy that took in $26-million as the runner-up. The new suspense thriller, The Gift, with Jason Bateman, was third with $12-million. The new musical Meryl Streep vehicle, Ricki and the Flash, placed seventh with $7-million. And the British animated comedy, Shaun the Sheep Movie, totaled $4-million, good for eleventh place.
