A fire burned in an apartment in Philadelphia's Somerton section overnight. Firefighters got the call around midnight for a blaze in the Haldeman Manor Apartments. One person suffered from smoke inhalation. The Red Cross is helping eleven people displaced by the fire.

Police are turning to surveillance video to help them track down a gunman who shot a man in North Philadelphia. Police think robbery was the motive for the shooting, which happened near 15th and West Hazzard Streets just before 1:30am. When officers arrived, they found a 33-year-old man on the sidewalk. He’s in critical condition with a gunshot wound to the stomach.

New lighting is being installed on North Broad Street as part of the effort to extend the Avenue of the Arts well into North Philadelphia. On Monday, crews started installing cylindrical metal bases for the 41 masts that will run up the middle of North Broad from Callowhill Street to Glenwood Avenue. Jeffrey Loo is with Bohlin Cywinski Jackson, the firm that’s managing the beautification project, says the illuminated poles will provide a visual link the length of the Avenue of the Arts.

Weather

Mostly Sunny. High 93 in Center City.
