Trent Jewelers Robbery on Video, South Philly Crash Carjacking Suspect Sought, Papal Jumbotrons

A brazen jewelry heist was caught on camera in Mercer County, New Jersey. The video shows the two masked bandits breaking into Trent Jewelers through a side glass window on Wednesday morning. Once inside the Quakerbridge Road store, they smashed several display cases and stole several thousand dollars worth of jewelry. They got away in a dark-colored four-door vehicle parking in the lot across from the store.

A traffic stop turned into a crash, carjacking, robbery, and kidnapping overnight in South Philadelphia. Police say they pulled over a Ford Mustang at 19th and Camac Streets, but instead of stopping his car, the driver took off and crashed. The driver then carjacked a Nissan with two females in the back seat, right in front of a police officer. After driving a few blocks, police say the suspect got out and fled on foot. Police say they know who they’re looking for — the suspect left behind a prison-issued ID card.

Large elevated view screens known as Jumbotrons will be strategically placed in several Philadelphia street locations on the Papal Weekend at the end of September. Donna Farrell, executive director of the World Meeting of Families, says 40 of the Jumbotrons will be erected to enable pilgrims coming to take part in events surrounding the two-day Papal Visit Sept. 26 and 27 to see what’s happening. They’re planning to show the pope’s arrival Saturday morning at Philadelphia International, his address outside Independence Hall Saturday afternoon, appearance at the Festival of Families on the Ben Franklin Parkway Saturday evening and the open-air Mass on the Parkway Sunday afternoon.
