Another Mom Arrested for Heroin Injection; Orchestra Negotiation; Jerry Mondesire Services

A Montgomery County mother has pleaded guilty to injecting her 14-year-old daughter and her daughter's boyfriend with heroin. 36 year old Patricia Davenport of Harleysville entered a guilty plea last week and her trial begins today. Another mom was arrested for a similar crime in Chester County last week. Prosecutors there filed charges in a nearly identical case against Jessica Lynn Riffey of Honeybrook who was arrested for supplying heroin to her 14-year-old daughter and her daughter's boyfriend.

Talks are continuing between the Philadelphia Orchestra Association and its musicians. They are trying to reach a deal on a new contract. Players hope to make up for some of the givebacks of the last contract - which was negotiated under the supervision of U.S. Bankruptcy Court after the association filed for Chapter 11 in 2011 - and to keep pace with base pay at the very top of U.S. orchestras. The musicians have argued that without such parity, Philadelphia's finest players will be lured elsewhere.

A CELEBRATION of Life service for J. Whyatt "Jerry" Mondesire will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday - his birthday - at Bright Hope Baptist Church, 12th Street and Cecil B. Moore Avenue, North Philadelphia. A viewing will be held at 4 p.m. Tuesday at the church. Burial is private. Mondesire, former president of the Philadelphia branch of the NAACP, died Sunday. He would have turned 66 on Wednesday. Mondesire led the chapter for 17 years. He was founder and publisher of the Philadelphia Sun, and co-founded the Philadelphia Association of Black Journalists.
