The publisher of the Philadelphia Gay News, has just published his memoir, titled "And Then I Danced: Traveling the Road to LGBT Equality." Mark Segal has been a gay activist from the age of 18. Now, 46 years later, he’s chronicled that journey in his new book. He says it started after the raid on the Stonewall Inn in 1969. One of his most recent accomplishments was the opening of the John C. Anderson Apartments for gay seniors.

Tuesday marks three weeks until the Philadelphia mayoral election, and last night, the two front-runners faced off for a debate. They spoke about everything from the recent papal visit to lowering taxes. In an hour-long intense dialog they talked about everything from industry to lowering taxes and the controversial stop and frisk policy. Democratic nominee and leader in the polls councilman Jim Kenney said his focus will be education, in the form of community schools and universal Pre-K. While his challenger Republican Melissa Murray Bailey says underfunded schools are not an option.

A small nationwide program has made its way to South Jersey. At the Shop Rite on East Landis Avenue in Vineland you may notice a new parking assignment next to the handicap spots — one designated for wounded veterans. The store added the reserved parking spot for combat wounded vets at the request of neighboring Buena Vista Township’s Veterans Affairs Committee. Over the last few years an organization called Wounded Warriors Family Support has given out more than 4,000 of these combat wounded parking signs. Buena Vista ordered five signs — so far there’s one at Shop Rite and one at Town Hall. Anyone interested in getting sign, they’re free from Wounded Warriors Family Support, you just have to cover shipping and handling.
