Gloucester Police Alerted to Online Threat; PA Judges Recommend $50 mil Uber Fine

A Gloucester Township, NJ resident alerted local police after receiving a post on social media from a man in Texas threatening to "shoot up a mosque" along with pictures of an assault rifle and ammunition. Gloucester Police contacted authorities in Fort Bend, TX. Texas authorities identified the sender as 26-year-old Clayton Alexander Cansler of New Territory, Fort Bend County. They detained and arrested him at his job at the Sugar Land Municipal Airport. He did not have a weapon. Cansler told authorities that he made the threats because he lost a friend on Sept. 11th and was distressed over the recent Paris attacks. He remains in custody with a bond of $10,000.

Judges for the Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission recommended a fine of $50 million against Uber for operating in the state without approval. The fine covers the time it starting operating in February 2014 and when it received experimental authority six months later. Uber argued that it is just a software company and not available to the public at large. The judges say that Uber has a more active role in the transportation services then simply providing an app that can be used in ride-sharing. Both sides now have 30 days to respond, after which the PUC will consider the recommendation.
