Lawyers for the Amtrak train derailment victims are holding a news conference today to talk about the impact of a decision by Congress to raise the liability cap from $200 million to $295 million. Lawyers representing the 188 victims of the May 12th derailment are happy with the news and believe this is only a starting point. Eight people were killed and more than 200 were injured in the May 12th derailment. Since the crash, Amtrak has added safety features to the Frankford curve area, while Philadelphia investigators are still waiting to talk to the train's engineer who is currently on unpaid leave. The NTSB told criminal investigators there were no problems with the train's brakes or the tracks.

The driver of a Volkswagen Passat and his passenger were killed in Southampton Township late Tuesday afternoon when their car crashed head-on into a school bus carrying the Lenape High School girls' varsity swim team to a meet. Eight of the 20 students on the bus were taken to Virtua Memorial Hospital in Mount Holly and treated for minor injuries, police said. The car was apparently traveling at high speed and may have been passing other cars at the time of the crash.

It’s time to make plans for your New Year celebration. For the sixth year in a row Philadelphia will have two New Year's Eve fireworks displays. The first will happen at 6 p.m. and another at midnight on the Delaware River. And for the 115th year in a row, the Mummers will parade through Philadelphia. The Mummers Parade will begin at 9 a.m. New Year's Day - an hour earlier than the 2015 parade - and run from City Hall to Washington Avenue. This year's parade features six divisions including a new "Philadelphia Division," established to add diversity to the parade. Second2None, a drill team based in West Philadelphia will lead the parade in the new division. The team will forgo the face paint and feathers for their own more simple black and green marching band outfits.
