The suspect in last night's ambush shooting of a Philadelphia Police officer in West Philadelphia has confessed to the crime. 30-year-old Edward Archer of Yeadon attacked 33-year-old Officer Jesse Hartnett while he was sitting in his patrol car at 60th and Spruce Streets around 11:30 p.m. Thursday. Archer told police that he had pledged allegiance to the Islamic State and ISIS and that he did it 'in the name of Islam.' He said that the shooting was "an attempted assassination of a police officer." Philadelphia Police Commissioner Richard Ross said during a news conference, "According to him, he believed that the police defend laws that are contrary to the teachings of the Quran." The gun used was actually a stolen police weapon reported back in October 2013. Mayor Jim Kenney decried the act saying that it had nothing to do with Islam, just a criminal trying to kill an officer. The FBI is now assisting with the investigation.

The demolition contractor and heavy machine operator in the deadly building collapse that killed six people at a Center City Salvation Army store were sentenced this afternoon. Contractor Griffen Campbell was sentenced to 15-30 years. Sean Benschop was sentenced to 7½-15 years. Both were convicted of involuntary manslaughter, aggravated assault and causing a catastrophe. Benschop pled guilty to the charges and testified at Campbell's trial. Campbell was acquitted of a more serious 3rd degree murder charge. Several of the families affected by the collapse are suing the building owner, Richard Basciano, in civil court. The owner and architect were never charged.

A 42-year-old Montgomery County man is under arrest after allegedly trying to have sex with a 13-year-old girl. David Chandler of Telford posted an online ad looking for sexual relationship. An agent with the Pennsylvania Attorney General's office responded to the ad pretending to be a 13-year-old girl. Chandler and the 'girl' communicated for about a month and he expressed a desire for a 'sex slave.' The two set up a time and place to meet at Lone Lane Park in Upper Macungie Township, Lehigh County. Chandler arrived at the park and left when there was no 'girl'. Authorities followed and arrested him. He is charged with unlawful contact with a minor and criminal attempt to commit involuntary deviate sexual intercourse. Chandler being held at the Lehigh County Prison on $100,000 bail.

Tonight,
Cloudy, temperatures in the upper 40's this evening in Center City.
