Amy Winehouse Died From Alcohol

The cause of Amy Winehouse's sudden death earlier this summer has now been released. Coroner Suzanne Greenaway concluded it was "death by misadventure," saying the singer died of accidental alcohol poisoning. "The unintended consequence of such potentially fatal levels (of alcohol) was her sudden and unexpected death," Greenaway said.

Blood and urine samples indicated Winehouse had consumed a "very large quantity of alcohol" prior to her death. The level of alcohol in her blood was 416 milligrams per 100 milliliters which is roughly a blood alcohol level of 0.4 percent.

Two large and one small vodka bottles were found in her apartment. Last seen by her body guard the night before, he said she was laughing and listening to music. "She did it moderately... she wasn't drinking to get drunk."

Amy had only recently resumed drinking after weeks of not, and had stopped harder illicit drugs for years. Acute alcohol poisoning can happen to anyone, depending on age, sex, weight, and how quickly you drink. There is no exact minimum level of intoxication.

Despite battling these demons for years it finally caught up with her. Winehouse family spokesman Chris Goodman said it was a relief to the family "to finally find out what happened to Amy."

"The court heard that Amy was battling hard to conquer her problems with alcohol and it is a source of great pain to us that she could not win in time," he said.
