Turnpike Apology; Blizzard Dig Out; Jersey Shore Storm Damage

Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission Chairman Sean Logan, issued an apology to the stranded motorists during the blizzard. Traffic is back to normal after a gruesome travel experience for many during the snowstorm. About 500 vehicles got stuck on a long stretch of the turnpike in Somerset and Bedford counties starting Friday night. Buses carrying Temple's Women's Gymnastics team and Duquesne University Men's Basketball team were among those stuck in the mess. Some travelers were stuck up to 24 hours.

The neighborhoods in Philadelphia struggled to deal with all that snow yesterday. There’s just nowhere to put a record snowfall. Homeowners clearing their sidewalks threw the snow in the street. Car owners cleared the snow into the street. Plows navigated cars stranded in the middle of the street. And some roads still have not seen a plow. With the thaw and overnight freeze pattern we will have this week, it will take a few days to return to normal.

The Jersey Shore is still assessing the damage. Coastal communities along the New Jersey shoreline are suffering from beach erosion after this weekend’s big storm. Up and down the coastline, businesses and homeowners are dealing with water levels higher than Superstorm Sandy. Beach replenishment projects and dune building did help, but some residents are dealing with ice water in and around their homes.
