At a press conference this afternoon, Mayor Jim Kenney thanked Philadelphians for their patience as the snow cleanup is ongoing. He said that they hope to have all the streets plowed by end of day Wednesday, telling those on side streets that they are coming. Street parking will remain free tomorrow, Tuesday, at meters and kiosks but safety violations like parking in front of a fire hydrant will be ticketed. As for hydrants, Kenney is asking neighbors to clear out snow and ice from any fire hydrant on their block so firefighters can access it in case of a fire. Trash and recycling service will resume on it's normal schedule Tuesday. SEPTA is working to clear parking lots at stations which are still fairly covered. Philadelphia public and Archdiocesan schools will be closed again on Tuesday. If you have any questions call 311, or @Philly311 on twitter,

The Birds of Paradise exhibit at the Elwood Park Zoo in Norristown, Montgomery County collapsed over the weekend due to the heavy snows. The zoo said that no bird or person was injured. The wire mesh roof caved in under the weight of the snow overnight Saturday. Luckily, the exhibit is closed for the winter and the birds are kept in a warm holding area. Zoo officials plan on rebuilding the enclosure. The zoo had already been running a winter fundraiser. Donate at

Heating oil spilled into Schuylkill River this afternoon near Market Street in Center City Philadelphia. The Coast Guard says that 4,200 gallons of red dye heating oil spilled from an emergency generator. 3,950 gallons went onto land and 250 made it into the river. The snow and ice are acting as a barrier for the oil spill, which has been contained. (see picture below) A company has been hired to clean up the spill. They will use absorbent materials on the river and ice as well as vacuum trucks. The Philadelphia Water Department says that its water intakes are above this point in the river so it poses no threat to drinking water supply. The Schuylkill River Trail will be closed between Market and Walnut for the next few days as the cleanup is under way.

Partly Cloudy, temperatures in the mid-low 30's, watch for refreezing/black ice on the roads this evening in Center City
