The animated sequel, Kung Fu Panda 3, led the way at the box office, earning an estimated $21-million over the weekend for a second straight first-place finish. The runner-up was Hail, Caesar!, the debuting comedy from the Coen Brothers, with George Clooney, Channing Tatum, and Scarlett Johansson. It took in $11-million. Third and fourth were holdovers The Revenant and Star Wars: The Force Awakens at around $7-million each. The next two spots belonged to the weekend’s other new attractions: The romantic drama, The Choice, earned $6-million, good for fifth place, while the horror hybrid, Pride and Prejudice and Zombies, was sixth with $5-million.

The Temple University Board meets today to once again discuss putting a football stadium on its North Philadelphia campus, while the mayor continues to oppose the idea. The board broke off the stadium discussion at its December meeting, upon learning of Jim Kenney’s opposition to the idea and is set to continue it today. Kenney says he’s still trying to talk the Eagles into dropping their demand for $12-million and double the rent for Temple’s continued use of the taxpayer-subsidized Linc.

Top Chef auditions will be held Tuesday at the Philadelphia restaurant of former winner Kevin Sbraga. He says Philadelphia is a haven for Top Chef talent. Sbraga is one of them. The other is Laurel chef/owner Nick Elmi.
