Rallies at Apple Stores Against FBI; Heroin OD on SEPTA Video; Macy's Theft Mother Arrested

Protesters gathered at rallies at over 40 Apple store locations around the country, including Center City Philadelphia and Cherry Hill, NJ, to stand behind Apple after the FBI has demanded the company write software to circumvent its iPhone security features. The FBI obtained a court order calling on Apple to change its iOS operating system to allow the FBI to attempt an unlimited number of password guesses without the phone locking up and deleting its contents. They specifically want to access the iPhone 5c owned by the shooter in the San Bernardino attacks. Apple is refusing to comply, arguing that creating a backdoor into the highly secure phone would jeopardize the safety and security of millions of people, businesses, hospitals, factories, etc. that use iOS devices. The rallies were organized by Fight For The Future.

Upper Darby Police released a video Tuesday afternoon that shows a man overdosing on heroin while riding a SEPTA bus before being revived by police officers using Narcon. It happened on Thursday, February 18th around 1 p.m. on a crowded Route 111 bus. 25-year-old Michael Meeny of Media can be seen injected his arm with the drug before losing consciousness and falling to the floor. Other riders came to his aide and called 911. Upper Darby Police Officer Matt Rugh administered the anti-opiate drug Narcan which counters the effects of heroin. Meeny was taken to Delaware County Memorial Hospital where he was treated and released. He was then arrested after police found 4 bags of heroin on him. Upper Darby Police Superintendent Michael Chitwood decided to release the video to show how desperate someone afflicted with the disease of addiction can become to shoot up in broad daylight in public. "Heroin is a disease; it's an addiction," Chitwood said. "This video shows just how desperate people can get." He also wanted to show how Narcan can save lives when in the hands of first responders. Watch the video below:

A woman who left her child behind while evading store security after being caught shoplifting at a Center City department store earlier this month has been found and arrested. 27-year-old Mahogany Ashly Terry of Strawberry Mansion was taken into custody last night without incident. On February 11th, Terry was stopped for allegedly stealing $1,400 worth of merchandise from Macy's. While waiting for police to arrive, she managed to slip her handcuffs and escape, leaving her 4-year-old daughter in the store. DHS came and retrieved the girl. She was given to relatives. Terry is charged with retail theft and recklessly endangering the welfare of a child.

Occasional showers, temperature around 40 this evening in Center City
