Villanova Wins NCAA Championship; Classes Canceled in Celebration; NTSB on Amtrak Crash

Villanova is the NCAA Champion. The Wildcats beat the favored North Carolina Tar Heels in one of the best NCAA Finals ever. North Carolina tied the game with just 4 seconds to play when Villanova senior Ryan Arcidiacono fed Kris Jenkins who drained a 3 point swish as time expired giving the Cats a 77-74 victory. On hand to witness the historic game were members of the 1985 Villanova championship team and former coach, Rollie Massimino.

After Villanova's big win last night crowds poured into the streets around the Main Line campus. The celebration of the first national championship in 31 years was loud and joyous. The exuberant crowd was mostly well behaved and carried on overnight well into the morning. Villanova University made the decision to cancel classes today.

The Amtrak passenger train that hit a backhoe killing two workers was going 106 miles per hour in a 110 mph zone, and the engineer applied the emergency brakes five seconds before impact, the National Transportation Safety Board said late Monday. Videos showed construction equipment on the track and contractor's equipment on an adjacent track before the crash Sunday morning, NTSB investigator Ryan Frigo said. He could not comment on who was authorized to be there, but said work crews were scheduled to be interviewed on Tuesday. No one on board was killed, although more than 30 passengers were injured.
