Scooter Rider Dragged to Death; NY Proposes Textalyzer; Penn Students Mourn Suicide

Philadelphia Police are investigating a deadly hit and run in Kensington. The incident occurred around 9 o'clock Wednesday night at Aramingo and Lehigh Avenues. The victim, a 35-year-old man, was riding his scooter when he was struck by a silver Pontiac Aztec. The victim was dragged about 200 feet down the road underneath the SUV. The driver fled the scene. Police found the car with New York plates this morning, but the driver remains at large.

Police in New York may soon have a new weapon to catch people who text and drive. It called the "textalyzer". State lawmakers have proposed a bill that would allow police to use the textalyzer device at accident scenes. It's a play on the breathalyzer device used to find drunk drivers. If you're in an accident police would be able to scan your phone with the device and it would tell them if you were texting at the time of the accident or moments before.

Students gathered at the University of Pennsylvania yesterday to mourn the loss of fellow student Olivia Kong, a finance major, who committed suicide when she was hit by a Market-Frankford train Monday morning. It was the 10th Penn suicide in three years. Students want to call more attention to the issues of student depression, anxiety and mental health.
