Haverford Township is in mourning after the sudden death of a beloved police officer in the Pennsylvania suburb. According to the police department, 39-year-old William Albertus died Sunday. The seven-year veteran of the force suffered a medical emergency last week while playing ice hockey in a police league. They say Albertus died of natural causes after being hospitalized for a week. He leaves behind his wife and three young children. Services are set for this weekend.

The Delaware Memorial Bridge will be a traffic mess to avoid for a while. There will be urgent construction work on the Delaware-bound span. Construction crews are focused on replacing three suspension ropes in close proximity to each other. Crews have closed three of the four lanes on the Delaware-bound span for the next several days. The traffic has been shifted to the right lane to reduce the load in the work area to maintain required structural factors of safety during this process. At times, physical work will not be visible from the travel lanes but the Authority assures its customers that the work is being completed as quickly as possible. The speed limit is reduced to 35 mph throughout this repair process and will be strictly enforced. The right lane is open to traffic. Once this initial work is completed, it is expected that the single left lane will remain closed for the immediate future. The Authority will be assessing progress throughout the project to determine when additional lanes can be reopened.
